I wasn’t able to get a picture of the first one, but here is the one laid last night.

both were laid this week, I believe by my silkies, who are just starting to lay. All my other girls have thick and healthy shells on the eggs they lay, i even think they may be above average thickness and strength. I’m going to be giving them extra calcium,(probably in their water) and oyster shells Regardless, but I wanted to know if this is a deficiency issue or just hiccups in their reproductive tract?

Btw, the one egg we did get that was normal from them this week was thin-shelled and broke in the nest. I assume from hitting the ground after the hen popped it out.

We got them early April last year, so almost 10 months old now. This we had one egg from them a while back but it seems that they are just now actually starting to lay. And no they have not molted yet.

We got one tiny egg from them today.

It is not unusual that the eggs of a hen that is starting to lay has these issues.

Do add some shell grit or if you do not have any, you can always crush up some of the hens egg shall and give that to them or in their food.
But mind that yo do crush up the shells well so that they are very small.
