My australorps started laying a week ago but won't use their nesting box. Dimensions are good and it is filled with line shavings but they insist on making a random nest in their roosting box area. I've put goofballs in the box as well as left an egg in it for two days. How do I train them to use the box?

Roosting box? Could be your problem. Roosting should be on bars and not boxes. If they have a box they already sleep in, they will lay there as well. Make that change and make sure the nests are below the roost bars and it should be adequate.

Can you post pics of your set up?

My profile pic is their coop. They roost on bars in the upper room area and the box is in there. It's not under their roost bar though

I'd just block off where they are currently laying and make the nests as inviting as possible with some deep hay, straw or dried grasses for nesting material and see what happens. Leave their eggs in the nests for several days...they'll get the hang of it.
