What breed is this rooster?

He doesn't look like a game. I'm not great on breeds but there are signs when a bird is a game bird.

Can you have chickens? If you can, get a couple of hens. Well, I guess you need to get a coop first. He'll move in like he's always been there.

I am hoping to get a few hens for him. I have a coop and I'm hoping to tame him and love him.

Get those girls. Build a run if you don't have one on the coop. Keep food and water inside and watch for him to go in. When he does lock them down. Make sure their run is covered so they can't fly out.

I'm looking forward to this. He came to you for a reason. I see the wild bird feeders so they probably attracted him.

I'm excited. I have a small coop, and he walked into today. He walked out pretty quickly, but I am on the hunt for a "big girl" chicken so the two can have their own little love nest.

Here we go. What's stopping you? Go find him his new love.

Sounds like you might not need the run but you will have to keep them up for a couple of days so they know that's home.

I am basing this on "heard information" that a rooster needs five or more chickens or it will pester too few hens with their "needs." I am hoping to give this fellow a companion, but I don't want her to have to fight him off all the time. I genuinely believe he is lonely. We are renovating this house, and the rooster goes to a mirror outside and hangs out with the rooster on the other side. He would look at his reflection in my car paint before that and hang out.

Yes, that can be a problem. He looks like an adult. It might not be so bad if you only got two or three girls for him.

I genuinely didn't want ANY chickens, but I'm going to end up with at least two I think, maybe three.

That's like me saying, no more dogs. It didn't work.

Other than the fact you're trying to work on the house and get moved in. They could be a plus. Actually a big plus for when you take a break from working on the house. You can sit and watch them while enjoying a cold drink or your coffee.

I can't begin to capture the joy MRP (Mr. Rooster Pants) showed when he realized that a female chicken was in the little coop. He LITERALLY jumped into the air. He talked to her, scratched around for food, crowed, strutted, and flared his neck feathers. They snuggled in last night, and they are both doing wonderfully. I did find a big girl chicken for him and so far, there hasn't been any drama.

👏👏👏 That sounds like such a good reception. Chickens really don't like not being with their own kind. You've made that poor boy so happy.

Based upon the time the neighbor remembers first seeing him, I think that he was freed during a tornado. It hit our area pretty hard. There were two birds, bur a neighbor dog killed the other. MRP (Mr. Rooster Pants) is so happy. I cannot adequately share the joy this rooster expressed. He is doing such a wonderful job too. He scratches around for food for her and struts around like Mick Jagger with his chest out and little skinny legs. It's really adorable.

That is just the sweetest thing! I'm so happy that worked out for him and you like that. He probably just feels so grateful to have a mate. He's a beautiful rooster!

Will you let them free range once she's settled? Those digs appear to be small and dark.

Where are you with the house? Has it slowed down because you keep going out to watch the birds?

I bought them a chicken tractor, and after a week or so, I do plan to add a covered but open range area. I will open it up them and let them have more range. I am absolutely hoping to stop at these two. As for the house, I have to laugh or I will cry. In five days, I need to move out of our apartment and move into the house. As of the date today, we have zero hot water and zero toilets or sinks. It's going to be interesting if my hubby doesn't make some fast improvements. Haha.
