I have never heard of them. Can you tell me what they are? Should I be conserved for my chickens? I live in Louisiana. Do they have them there? Please help! I'm worried!!

All chickens have mites at some point (yes even if you don't see them). As long as the flock has a place to dust bathe the mites will stay at a minimum. They are mostly a nuisance if there is no where to dust bathe and during the winter when the ground is frozen. Dust bathing kills the mites. They are teeny tiny little red bugs that eat skin/blood of the chickens. You won't even see them unless your birds are infested. And yes they are even in Louisiana as well as everywhere else a bird lives. If there are birds there are mites.
