Hello,

I can't find another cockerel who looks the same as this. I am in a real rush to know, as he is being taken to a festival/show tomorrow. I am no chicken expert, so it may be a really easy one. Please somebody help!

Thank you for replying! I assume he is a cross, as I really can't find a breed that looks like him. At the moment my best guess is a dominique crossed with something, as the dominique has the same comb as him. Let me know what you think. Thank you again!

I'd lean more towards a Barred Rock cross than a Dom.

You can study with the hatchery catalogues.That's how I learn about the breeds and what they look like.They were looking at the barred pattern of the feathers.To me the Barred Rock and Dominique look a lot alike.Also the comb type,body type and leg coloring.Get some catalogues or go on a website and just look at chicken breeds and try to refrain from ordering some...

The barring of the feathers could be from a BR or Dom.The comb would indicate more of a Dom. When breeding different breeds any genotype/phenotype is possible. For example a rose comb x a single comb will result with different combs,some will have a rose comb , single comb or a combo of the two.The barring on that might not even be from either of the 2 mentioned.

Dominiques were one of the breeds used to create Barred Rocks ,,, if i remember correctly,

Basically things get more complicated when breeds are mixed when trying to ID which breeds were involved unless a person knows who the parents were and their lineage.

Thank you everyone for all your help! We have decided to stick with Dom x as he has most similarities of that, we don't need to specify what he is crossed with luckily! He's coming with us to Capel Manor tomorrow, a harvest festival for London city farms and community gardens, wish him luck!

I was going by the comb. I cant tell if the barring is irregular in the pic. It really wouldnt matter since the bird is mixed.

I saw this in the chicken book I checked out from the library. Something Scott or Scotty. Can’t remember! Did u find out at the show?
