The weather here in London ON has been all over the place but temps well below freezing. I knew egg production would decrease but now in the last 3 weeks my birds are laying almost an egg a day. 3 hens and one Roo and I am getting 2 eggs one day and one the next? I am so confused. It sucks because I also have a day job so by the time I collect eggs they are frozen and cracked open. Even on days off when I check more frequently the eggs are freezing in a couple hours. Is it normal for them to lay this much???

Ground Hog day is the time when they come back into production. That's the halfway point between the Winter Solstice (shortest day of the year) and the Spring Equinox (equal light day and night), so there is just enough light to pop them back into laying, especially if they are younger.

I'm usually over run with eggs by Valentine's Day!!
