I have an ameriucana rooster and his hens and a couple buff orpington hens. they have been raised together. yesterday one of the buffs was hiding in weeds and scared to death of the rooster. I saw her head had really been pecked on...........more than the normal. she is terrified of the rooster now. why would he all of a sudden take a dislike to her?

How old? Young roosters can be quite aggressive when the hormones are raging.

You might have to put him away from the girls until he matures more. And if he's older than a year, he needs to live somewhere else.

yes, older than a year.............maybe 1 1/2 years. Has been good with the Buffs......in fact tended to 'hang out' with them but now all of a sudden he seems to hate one.

Try a time out for a couple of weeks. It should reset the flock dynamics. If he goes back to causing her stress I would get rid of him.

her head was horribly pecked up. she still avoids him by going to a completely different area of pen when they are outside...........not staying with the group.

You've got to pull him out. Give her a break from his idiocy.
