We had 40 chickens. Each week for the last 3 weeks we have lost a chicken. Now our 3 1/2 year old leghorn has taken a turn for the worse. 6 months ago we nursed her back to health mostly but she hasn't laid an egg and keeps getting clogged up with poop.

The egg production has slowly been going down. Today only one hen laid an egg.

Most hens seem fine other than not laying eggs.

It is getting colder and we just had our first snow. The hens are free range and have a large coop with a heat lamp inside. The last time I checked the temp in the coop it was 53 degrees. I can add another heat lamp if the temperature is bothering them but they seem fine.

The hens that died are all different kinds and ages.

If you have any ideas of what we could do to help our hens please let me know.

So sorry this is happening. =( What are some of the sign and symptoms you are seeing? Eating habits. Change in their poops. How do their eyes look? How are their combs? Are they sleeping more than usual? The more you can share, the better we can help zero in on what's going on.
