We have just started raising chickens. We have been fighting with the coons over who the chickens belong to, think we have finally won.

Glad you won your battle, just starting to fight one of my own. Darn coons.

    Welcome from North Florida.
I don't know about ya'lls area, but here in Florida coons are notorious carriers of rabies.
    Be careful, my friends.

    Hi,
When I let my chickens into the run through the day, do I keep the nesting box and roosting area open for them to go back into?

I do for mine. They all take their turns running back inside to lay their eggs. Only once have I had them lay an egg anywhere other than their nest box. Abbie left her gift in my planter of petunias one day in June. Apparently the first 2 planters she shredded my flowers in weren't good enough. Goofy girl. :)
