I forgot to make this post earlier. But I'd like to introduce you to the freshly hatched sterling. She just hatched and this is the one and only. She hatched out of one of my really little eggs. Also two are piped and one is hatching right now. Sadly no signs from luck.

All right. Why was Felix in your hand?

And welcome to the world, Sterling.

How many more? I'm still pulling for Luck to make and appearance.
Well we have 9 more left and i was watching them hatch and Felix was having trouble with pushing so I was making sure he was all good. I'm not giving up on luck till the very end. Now I'm snuggling the two peep peeps

I'll sort of forgive you this time. But if you can wait until a peep screams before interceding. Sometimes they're not quite ready to be totally out and need a little extra time to absorb the yolk.

Last night was two. How many more this morning?
There was three black chicks this morning and you were right. Luck has piped at the top. Now he doesn't have to hatch through wax. I'm on the bus ride home let's hope luck has hatched. Actually I renamed Felix daphadill to go with daisy. And he had the big push left. But he leg got stuck on the out side of the egg so I had to tuck he's leg back in for max peep peep push power, his wing also got stuck so I was making sure that he'll hatch fine.

I'm so happy to read that Luck is probably going to join its siblings. Makes my day. :giggle:
I does to me too. And all the hatched chicks have been named. We have sterling, daphadill, wonder, clover, galactic, and of course luck if he hatched out right. I've had multiple chicks die while hatching there beaks got caught in this layer of skin or a second membrane and suffocated.

You're not home yet? Jeez the suspense is killing me.
Robin I don't know if you're going to be too happy with me but I just hatched luck in my hand. She actually did need help because she couldn't get like the top part of her egg off because her legs slipped out before the rest of her so she couldn't get out and I'd like to introduce you to luck. And you can see the indent of my thumb where I pushed

Things worked out OK but your really need to listen for cries of unhappiness to play it safe that things are not being rushed. If the legs were out then Luck was ready.

BTW, welcome to the world Luck. Chick needs to make sure you don't go anywhere. You're rather special in the fact you hatched. And congrats, Chick, for a everything going so well.

Thanks Robin but like I said I rather be safe then sorry because I've lost a lot in hatching and that includes the almost fully hatched.

A distressed cry is your signal that you need to step in. Those peeps that didn't make it and didn't cry were probably very weak and wouldn't have lived long once hatched. Robust babies know when they're in trouble and call for help.
You see they died when I was at school so I don't know really if they cried. That's one of the reasons I remove the shell over the pips so I can make sure there breathing right that's how I saved rush. And small fri got cold and he was in his air cell for three days with no pip and getting weaker. So I broke a hole in the bottom of the air cell and saved his life. All the others were a week younger than small so I was small fri's only company as well.

That's a bad position to be in. There's no one at home that understands that peeps might need a hand when you're at school?
No most of the time my brother's at school and my dad's at work. My mom's home but she doesn't understand chicken cries and usually in a meeting. Also my brother has the audacity to say chickens are just chickens they have no free will or feel emotion. I don't think my brother really understands chickens. Also here's luck and sterling. Luck is big then sterling but it's still a cute picture. Luck is the white one in the back.

You know to ignore your brother. Which you do. But he's a male, they can be like that naturally.

How many of the peeps are you keeping? Besides Luck, that is.
Currently 5 others including sterling and daphadill. My mom promised me that we'll go to tractor supply and get new ones. Now that our eggs are small and our chickens feet are turning green.
