Ok so I was candling my eggs earlier and I was moving it around to see what my embryo was doing. I guessed I pushed on a soft spot and it cracked. Like thumb indent crack. I acted imitatly by put some tissue and tape on it to close the crack. I read up on it and it said to put wax on the crack so I did. When I removed the tape there was no blood on the tissue or shell. So the membrane is still intact and he's so close to hatching his egg is completely full. I hope I acted in time to save his life. What do you think. Did I do the right thing, this is my first time accidentally cracking a egg. Day 18 on the 13th. Do you think he'll live to hatch or is it too late. But if there's a chance I won't give up on him.

All I can tell you Chick is hatch day will tell you if it worked out OK. Being that close might be the only reason.

A shell that thin means you have a hen that needs more calcium. If you know who it was you might want to add extra for her.

Please let us know how things turn out. I'm really hoping peep hatches.
Well it's the wierd thing. Sugar has something I call thin thick eggs. Her Calum is ok but she has thined shells towards the top and near the air cell. but I'll let you know if he lives

So her shell thickness isn't consistent within the one egg? How odd. Is she getting older?

Thanks, I appreciate it.
She's only one she'll turn two in August. It's odd and some of her eggs are thicker but the odd thing is we have three more of her eggs in there minus 8. And the other have no problems . Also if that chick hatches I decided to name him luck.

Talk about getting a surprise whenever you pick up one of her eggs. Maybe this will stop as she gets a bit older.

Luck or Lucky?
Luck. His egg is number 8. 9 didn't make it past day two probably. Let's just hope. Cause the funny thing is it has the calcium bumps but still has a soft shell spot. Like sug learn how to lay right. And to add on to the mysteries of chickens. I found a nest with eggs in it in our still being built small barn. It has walls, a roof, windows, and a locked door. The nest was found in the locked building. Chickens can teleport when your not looking I tell you that for a fact.

Well, we have a few days to wait to see if Luck crashes out of his/her egg.
Looking at him, he looks like a day 18 hatch. With the egg being as full as it is and eclipsing the vains making it hard to see. Along with that I candled luck again today and the air cell had the signature corner push. So he hasn't broke the air cell but by looking at it, he should be one of the first to hatch.

OK, put him/her back and quit checking up on it. It's already compromised so hang back until the big day.
I'm drowning in the suspense of hatching. Now I'm so bored but the reason it the suspense is killing me. And plus how am I not supposed to check on luck and the others. I do always love waking up and having new hatched birds In my incubator. It really shows that you can't give up on something till it opens.

You and everyone else who goes the route to hatching peeps. You just have a few days left and you'll be hearing them peeping as they break out of their shells.

What message are you going to leave for your dad this year? That was bad last year. Can you top it?
Oh yeah I can top it just wait till tomorrow, speak of witch, it's day 17 our chicks should start hatching tomorrow. Ahh so excited. Although this year it's going to be in a peice of dry wall. My peeps should be piping. What do you think this batch should be named. I name my batches my name the individual chicks. Like on batch was the nuggets and small fri and sugar cookie that was there batch. There the ones I saved.

Ha! Don't ask me. I have no imagination. I'm leaving that up to you because you come up with so many interesting ideas.

Like the feather memorials. Who would have ever thought to do that?
Honestly Ashly set that off because I had her feathers and started to collect them. So I had to do something so picture frames it was. And most of my ideas aren't that good.

Well, the ones you've mentioned here have been so you do hit on some good ideas. That message to your dad on the driveway was a hoot. I never would have thought of it.
I have issues when it comes to baby chickens. I was you excited that they were hatching. Also your talking to the girl who let's the baby Chickens live in her room and snuggles them to the point they sleep. I tell you it's so freaking cute. And not to mention they tinny little toes and there tiny little floopy wings. Man I love little baby birds.

Wow. Let us know if any of those hatch. Saying a prayer and sending good vibes for Luck to pull through.
