I got some new chicks and right now they’re nearing seven weeks. How am I able to tell if they’re a rooster or hen right now? I only know how to check based on their comb growth and their crowing.
These are just two of my three chicks.

They both look like pullets to me.

I was hoping Ken would post one of his roosters so you could see the feathers or a male. Or a least most males. Not all have the unique feathering.

He's better at sexing hard feathered birds than I am so I'll stay away from that.

This works for adult birds, but you can start seeing it in young chicks. Young cockerels also often display an upright, erect posture and generally have thicker legs than pullets the same age and breed. Their combs will turn redder sooner, also.

Thanks Ken. I know that stuff is out there but I never remember to find it. It's hell getting old.
