Always wanted chickens but lived in the city. We move to "the country" a couple of years ago and got 8 hens this summer. They all have such personalities. It has also been fun to meet all of the other "chicken farmers" at my work. We all have a way of finding each other.
Welcome from Virginia! I started with 3 roosters in April 2012...my husband made, what was intended to be a sarcastic comment... "but we need eggs"... 20 minutes later I had purchased 3 hens! Long story short, I/we have 2 small flocks totaling 13 "kids"! I hope you find this forum as helpful as I have!
I have 2 Jersey Giants, 2 Buff orphington, 2 Barred rocks and 2 partridge rocks. I am getting 6-8 eggs a day-very fun. No idea who lays which eggs. I have one that is very oblong and makes me laugh every day.
They look great against the white backdrop. Pretty collection. What is the black hen? Black orp? Black Americana?
