    Buff Orphington, Rhode Islands, Ameraucana, Australorps, Rocks, Easter Eggers, Isabrown to name a few all do well. Very friendly breeds too.

    If they have a warm place it doesn't matter too much. Some say smaller combs so they won't get frost bite. It's not been a problem for us though.

    I would see what is being raised locally. That will give you a good idea of what is hearty there. I have a large variety here my smallest is a production red. I have a Cochin, jersey giant, blue laced Wyandotte and so on. They all seem to tolerate the cold well. I have a leghorn mix and she did loose the tips on her comb. She is always the first to jump out in the snow too.
