All I can say is, your poor wife. She can't even get rid of you during the day when you go off to work. And now she's dealing with your addiction. :D

Being here in the states that price seems quite high. Right now our egg prices have spiked due to bird flu but normally they're under 3$ a dozen. Which our dollar is a few cents higher than your pound.

What are your plans? You've got to have plans. You can't be going at this all higgly piggly. You still have bird flu in the country that could wipe out your birds.

The British pound is just higher than the US dollar at roughly $1.19 for one British pound, it’s only 50p/50c higher than the supermarket prices so not that much for better quality.

I’m going to have all my young egg layers and my black araucana roo in my backyard, then the ones that are up at my new space are going to the farm after they have scratched all the grass away. I’m going to just focus on the one space now it makes sense, if my flock is wiped out due to the avian flu I have two places I can build up a new flock pretty much overnight from.

I used to keep track of that but not anymore. I'm more familiar with the difference because I spent so much time in Canada and the exchange there is the same as it is with your country.

Remember the flu could wipe out your sources too. Here they are beginning to look at vaccinating because it's costing so much. Problem is, it will mask if a bird has the flu when it comes to exports. Although, do they export live birds?

I don’t really travel much just I see the exchange rates on the news in the morning.

yeah iv had a good think about that eventually happening but the wildlife centre at least told me they always have more than enough fertile eggs to get started if that had to happen. So at the very least I can start from right at the beginning if I have to.

I don't travel anymore and where I've landed means I'm not close to the Canadian border anymore. So no scooting through the tunnel to Windsor for me anymore.

Someone is going to have to make some sort of decision. Just like Covid, this bird flu is here to stay.
It’s not that I don’t like it I just don’t have any need for it anymore. Been to mainland Europe a couple of times I’s enough for me.

if you remember when I first came onto the forum I didn’t know thier was a bird flu, iv caught up now and your right it’s not going anywhere so culling off flocks isn’t going to cut it or their won’t be anything left.

Like you, I'm done. I don't want to travel anymore. I've done my fair share and then some. I hate even driving into the city to get groceries.

Even though I don't have chickens anymore I still sort of keep an eye on what is going on. If they have a vaccine for H5N1 then they need to make it available to those that want to protect their birds.

LOL Is life getting ahead of you? I was hoping all was well on your side of the big pond.

Dude, you were meant to have chickens. To recognize the leghorn missed her buddies would not be what most would realize so quickly.

Nothin' much going on here. Weather is being schizoid. Warm almost to hot one day and 70 first thing at 5 AM. Then it swings to 32 at 5 AM and miserable the rest of the day due to wind. And then there's tomorrow. Big storms coming this way to drop our today warm temps back in the dumps.

Yeah been pretty busy on this end just getting baby stuff sorted and just been busy in general with this weather it can be a pain when growing.

I noticed as the only thing that had changed was that those birds where away, as soon as Jane the lady who’s garden I use was okay with me moving her up she had layn the next day and hasn’t stopped since, that’s been 3/4 days now.

here’s some pics of the little Belgian bantams thier really friendly hens try to come back into the house with me when I go out from the garden, little bantam chirping and sprinting after me lol love it.theirs also picture of Ricky my black araucana roo. They love the rain apart from the little Belgians.

The Belgians must be a lot like d'Uccles. Very people friendly. My little D would come sit in my lap whenever she saw me outside. She even liked the hubs. She would run up to him and talk a mile a minute.
Lol that’s exactly what they do, one of them came sprinting at me this morning soaking wet it was heavy rain since yesterday, I put my hand down for her and she hopped on I popped her onto my shoulder and brought her in for ten mins as she was cuddling g in to get my body heat, then put her back with her wee pal for the day.

Yep. Yep. Yep. That's one thing I do miss about not having chickens. The little D's.

The first time Prissy ran up to hubs he was wandering around outside being home for the weekend. He said she stood there at his feet and talked and talked. He knew she wasn't supposed to be out and was shocked that when he bent to pick her up she was just fine with it. She didn't know him from Adam.

You're going to be on the hunt for more Belgians now aren't you?
