There have been a lot of people that discovered the birds in their retirement years and regret never having had them before. You just get a jump on them by a few years.
It’s funny as it’s never somthing I thought I’d have gotten into, me and my friend where looking through an ads page and seen some hi lines for sale, he says we should get a couple as we already had housing and stuff we could use, the same day we got in the car picked them and some layers pellets up from the seller and iv never looked back.

I saw that getting two more and immediately thought you were going to be in hot water. Good thing you're swapping out some.
I didn’t get them I couldn’t let the others go.

I thought you’d appreciate a pic of my friends day old silkie chick.

Hi, baby. I think I see where you're going to have a couple of friends appearing soon. Get Mom back on that nest to hurry those others up.

Man, you're a soft touch. Although not constantly switching things up means the flock isn't going to be stressed all of the time. Your wife won't have to keep counting to make sure you haven't slipped extras in.

We had her off the nest to put in some fresh bedding and stuff I took the opportunity to get a couple of pics.

yeah I had them boxed up ready to go and when I was looking at them in their I just couldn’t let them go, I’m getting attached to them really fast I spend a lot of time with them and build up a good bond, the maran was only here for four days before I had her out eating from my hand and jumping on my shoulder, I did get a little frizzle who needed a new home today.

You've really got to stop. It's short of amazing that you haven't all kinds of issues constantly brining in new birds. In this case a rooster.

Although, he's not a bad looking fella.
He was destined for chicken heaven as his owners where getting noise complaints from neighbours, he was also in a space about a quarter I have with 8 birds, your right I’m not sure how I haven’t had some serious issues as I was expecting a few while building he flock up, I’ll quit while ahead and focus on using my existing flock to build in future.

there All getting along no problem this morning iv sat out here for the last hour and a half here’s a couple of pics of the little guy having a treat with some of the others.I also have a friend with a large farm who takes any birds from me so if iv had a problematic roo a hen has been causing problems iv taken them to the farm to stay I do t k ow if doing this has left me with a group of easier to deal with birds? We know I’m still new to this and learning as I go but what I have been doing seems to be working so far.

So, he does have shredded tail feathers. I thought so but it's hard to tell with sizzles.

OK, you need to stay away from places that have chickens. You've got a heart that can't let such a pretty little guy meet his end. You could have taken him to your friend's far you know.

It is surprising you haven't had any issues dumping new birds in the middle of the flock. If they get a chance to cohese it might be an issue later.

His tail is so cool it’s like it’s split I two with fluff in the middle.

i know I didn’t know I had such a soft spot for them it’s never beenan issue in the past with other animals, I mean I do love them but have no issue if they need to be used for meat ect. I could have but I’m sending a couple of the light Sussex Cornish cross Roos to the farm their about ready to start crowing and getting a little feisty id say Mabey a week or two before they go, I actually bought the six of them for £40 so they didn’t go to slaughter now there Gonna have a few weeks here at least then off to the farm.
I’m going to keep an eye on them and hopefully all stays relatively calm

On the Cornish crosses. Those are intended to be a meat bird. Due to their breeding they are not long lived. So don't be disheartened if things go bad with them.

Chickens are very much like fish in an aquarium. They're relaxing to watch go about their business. Especially when they get along as a flock.

So can you have roosters or not? Your new boy's tail isn't supposed to be like that. Being kept in a small cage often causes shredding of the feathers in the tail. He'll put out new feathers that you'll like even more.

Yeah I know they’re meant for meat birds but at least the e had a bit longer than intended to have a little free range life.

yeah I can have roosters but eventually it’s only going to be the two bantams and the araucana that I’m going to keep, I like the thought of some nice olive and blue eggs I have a good flock that’ll produce all sorts after a couple of clutches, that’s a bit down the line though.

I didn’t realise they weren’t mean to be like that hopfully having to the space will bring him to his full potential.

Huh, at that angle that last pic makes his tail look rather normal. How big is he? With his stance he reminds me of a Serama but he'd have to be really tiny.

I really hate to think how you're going to be if one of them becomes ill. Because they will. It's the roughest part about chicken keeping. In the UK vets are willing to have a go at helping the birds but I don't know if they will where you are.

I’d say he’s around the same size as the pekin bantam.
Yeah I’ll probably be a bit upset but it comes with keeping them I suppose, I have already spoke to a vet who’s more than happy for me to take any birds down if needed so kinda lucky their

It is so much easier if a vet will take over the euthanasia. It's hard for us that really get into the birds as being pets.
Yeah for sure is, I candled the eggs under my silkie girl and they were all duds, my friend gave me the green egg that’s a little behind the others to put under her so she still has a baby after sitting on eggs the little one could be here already I’m just waiting on the sun starting to come up to go and get feeds and water done and have a look in.
