I've been feeding my 8 hens organic soy free layer feed. It's getting very expensive ( freight) because I can't find it locally. Any suggestions for a high quality feed to substitute?

Thanks,

Kathy

Sure...just ferment what you are feeding and double the nutrients, thereby cutting the total feed needed to be fed out each day. It can make one bag last twice as long as it did before, so cutting your total feed costs in half.

I feed mine whole grains such as corn, wheat, soybean meal, oyster shells, and they get grass, scraps, and wheat bread. They do just fine. :) I buy the grains by the 50 gallon drum full. It cost around $60 ea. for a drum of corn and wheat. I buy the soybean meal by the 50 lb. bag fulls from my local feed store and I get the oyster shells from Tractor Supply. :)
