First off, I'm a real chicken newbie. I have 10 red stars, about 5 months old. Got some eggs in 2 incubators, though. Not all of my ladies are laying yet. I get about 4-5 eggs a day. The other day, I got an egg with a white power looking substance on it. My girls are brown egg layers. Could not wash it off, it was a color in the egg shell. When I cracked open the egg, there were several dark spots in the white.
I have not noticed any changes in the girls behavior, clean coop, no dirty/discoloration around rear feathers. Could this be a new layer just getting into her stide or or is it time to call Dr. House?

    Update....whitewashed egg shells

Today was a good day.....my herd of 10 thunder chickies gave me 7 eggs....new record!! None of which had any whiteish (sp?), whitish (sp?), white looking color to the shells. I'm thinking maybe a newbie at this egg laying thingy before, now she's agot her stride. Purty light brown eggs!
