Does anyone not supplement feed free range chickens?

Does anyone not supplement feed their free range chickens (say you have 5+ acres for them to roam freely all day).

Seems like the more I supplement feed, the less they forage, I was curious if supplement when there is adequate foraging available is absolutely needed.

Like you our flock free ranges over 5 acres. However, we do throw scratch or cracked corn mixed w/BOSS down before they roost. As the season has changed they find less in the fields and work a little harder with the ground starting to freeze. I just don't want them going especially into our nasty Maine winter without enough body insulation. They roost in an unheated building. I think it depends on where you live and your budget.:)
