@CFAdmin fuzzies and I have been going round and round about which alert needs to be checked to receive emails about being mentioned in a topic.

That makes no sense to me at all. In other words when I put @fuzzies in a comment she doesn't get a notice about it. Which of the bazillion settings in alerts is the right one to get an email notice?

When you use the "@user" feature, that is called a mention. You can receive a notification alert (if you have the preferences set for this) but not an email. You can set your preferences to receive emails for any new conversation (PM), or when you follow a thread or forum, you can enable emails at that time.
