Hi. I have a hen I bought at TSC with other chicks last year. All of the other hens are laying but I'm not sure about her. No breed was listed at TSC but her feather color/pattern as a chick and adult looks like Ancona. Anconas lay large white eggs. I'm getting red, brown, and green but no white. I don't know if she doesn't have eggs or is laying another color. My girls and the ducks lay in one big cluster. She's not a rooster. Any ideas?

She looks a lot like an Ancona except for one thing that stands out for me----she has red ear lobes. Anconas have white ear lobes. Red ear lobes almost certainly means she is not full ancona and that that hen will lay brown eggs.

Thank you. That makes sense. I'm getting more brown eggs than usual. Some are much larger than my golden sex links' eggs. I appreciate you.

A little late to respond, I apologize, but I believe she's a Mottled Java, not an Ancona. Anconas are built like Leghorns, sort of skinny and light-bodied, while Javas are heavier-built like your bird, and they also lay brown eggs. And one of the hatcheries TSC stores like to order through, Privett Hatchery, has Javas. :)
