Hi I have 1 island red chicken bout 5 months old, we want another island red but don't know if we can a younger chick to her coop? Will the older one try to kill the younger one if the same breed??? Thanks for any input!!

I would add at least 2 or 3. Adding a single chick can go very bad. Yes your 5 month old will attack the baby if you just put a baby in the coop. You'll need to brood it first then when its ready to go outside you will need to slowly introduce it. Have it penned seperatly so the original chicken can see it but not get to it. After a week or so you can let them together but you need to be out there with them so you can intervene. The orginal bird might accept the chick, or it might go after it, it might just peck to establish the pecking order or it might peck to injure. Just play it by ear and see how it goes.
