well i just started getting eggs from my buff orpingtons & they can't figure out that the nest boxes is where hens should lay eggs.
i found one out in their pen when i came home from work
i raked the pen so maybe they will not lay out there anymore?

what can i do to fix the problem?

    thanks

I put a couple golf balls in the nest boxes since they look like eggs to them. They see that and they'll be laying on the golf balls and leaving their eggs in the nest boxes. Its worked every time for me.

Golf ball or wooden eggs (craft stores) in the nest box... It works!

along with the golf balls i started at 1st to leave the eggs for a day in the nest. i would date them & collect the oldest.
once the girls all figured it out & i stopped finding eggs on the floor & out in the pen i then collected them all daily, hope that helps
