There is a recipe in The Encyclopedia of Country Living. It required a lot of ingredients to get all the recommended nutrients. I fed some for a couple of days on some hard wheat, peas and oats I ground up. I'm sure it was missing lots of essential things but it worked in a pinch. I also gave them some sprouts.

The Encyclopedia of Country Living ~ I love that book! :D

As to feed ... we have a special feed made for us. A feed that we can give to one and all. Starting with the horses on down. (cows, sheep, goats and etc.)

Do the chicken like it ... well, when they are free range (winter) they keep all ground under the feed buckets clean.

Think whole grains, no pellets.;) (but that is just me.)
