I was a little overwhelmed when I first started looking at coop designs online and looking at coops in the store. What I learned is this, it doesn't have to be fancy. Every thing but the chicken wire and nesting boxes are recycled materials. Its a simple 16 board frame(4 on top 4 on bottom and 4 upright holding it up) a wire floor, tin roof, and chicken wire sides. They were so happy and started laying within a week of being in there. You do have to be climate smart. I live in Texas were its even warm in winter. All I need for heat are 2 heat lamps in winter. I did eventually add to the coop. It looks a little hap hazard.because I just add more space where ever I can but what I'm trying to say is don't make it harder than it needs to be. Not everybody is a master carpenter, but don't worry about. Make your chickens safe warm dry and fed and they will be happy. Good luck and have fun!
